Houston Joy of Quilts Celebrates Golden Jubilee of the Quilt Guild of Greater Houston

HOUSTON, TX — The Quilt Guild of Greater Houston (QGGH) proudly announces its premier biennial quilt show, Houston Joy of Quilts, taking place January 29–30, 2027 at the Stafford Centre in Stafford, Texas. This special event marks the Guild’s Golden Jubilee — 50 years of quilting, community, and service.
Founded in 1976 by Karey Bresenhan, founder of the International Quilt Festival, QGGH is the original quilt guild of Texas and one of the largest in the state. As a registered 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, QGGH donates more than 600 handmade quilts each year to charities across Texas. Over the past 50 years, the Guild has donated more than 10,000 quilts.
The 2027 show will feature more than 300 quilts on display, with awards presented by NACQJ certified judge Jackie Ruffing and NQA Master Quilt Judge Marilyn Hardy. A highlight will be a live and online auction on January 29, 2027 from 5:00–7:30 PM, led by Dana Balsamo — a nationally recognized quilt appraiser and Antiques Roadshow appraiser.

Interview opportunities are available with Guild leadership, founding and long-time members, Quilts of Valor participants including Brigadier General Robin Umberg, volunteer leaders, charitable partners, and auctioneer Dana Balsamo.
Celebrating 50 years of service
Founded in 1976, QGGH is the oldest quilt guild in Texas and one of the state’s largest nonprofit quilting organizations.
More than 10,000 quilts donated
Guild members have donated more than 10,000 handmade quilts over 50 years, providing comfort to hospitals, veterans, children, and families throughout Texas.
Quilts of Valor: honoring service
As part of its Golden Jubilee, Guild members are creating and presenting 50 Quilts of Valor to deserving veterans.
Volunteers making a difference
Houston Joy of Quilts is entirely volunteer-led. Guild members collectively contribute thousands of hours each year.
National expertise comes to Houston
The 2027 show features Dana Balsamo, known to many viewers through her appearances on Antiques Roadshow.
The stories behind the quilts
Every quilt tells a story. Media interviews can be arranged with quilters, veterans, charitable organizations, and long-time Guild members.
