A quilting bee is more than a sewing circle — it is a gathering place where creativity flourishes, friendships deepen, and the joy of making something beautiful by hand is shared. Quilters come together around a common table, swap ideas, encourage one another, and stitch not just fabric but the bonds of a community.
The Quilt Guild of Greater Houston is home to ten bees spread across our 300-member organization, each one a vibrant hub of creativity and camaraderie. At Houston Joy of Quilts 2027, one of those bees has stepped up to bring something truly special to the show floor.
🦗 Meet the Piecemaker Bee
The Piecemaker Bee, with fourteen dedicated members, has taken on the joyful challenge of organizing and running the Guild Boutique at Houston Joy of Quilts 2027. Coordinated by Bobbie Tompkins, the Piecemakers have poured their collective creativity, time, fabric, and passion into making the Boutique a highlight of this year’s show.
Every member of the bee has contributed — from brainstorming ideas and sourcing materials to sewing, pressing, pricing, and keeping meticulous records. The Boutique is truly a team effort, and it shows in every handcrafted item on display.
Twelve Months of Joy
Bobbie and the Piecemakers introduced “Twelve Months of Joy” — a year-long initiative to engage all 300 members of QGGH in creating handmade items for the Boutique. Month by month, members across the guild have been stitching, cutting, and creating a wonderful collection of unique goods that will be available for purchase at the show.
