50 years of quilting, community, and service — 1976 to 2026
The Quilt Guild of Greater Houston is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization founded in 1976 by Karey Bresenhan — also the founder of the world’s largest quilt show, the International Quilt Festival, held annually since 1974.
The Quilt Guild of Greater Houston has grown into a thriving organization of hundreds of members united by creativity, generosity, and a shared love of quilting. Over five decades, our members have stitched not only beautiful quilts, but also a legacy of giving — donating thousands of quilts to comfort those in need across the Houston community.
In 2026 we celebrate 50 years of service to the Greater Houston Area.
The Golden Jubilee is both a celebration and a reflection:
As part of this milestone, Houston Joy of Quilts will feature special exhibits, commemorative projects, and opportunities to recognize the impact of quilting as both an art form and an act of care.
